Edwin Almonte had a brief stint with the Mets in 2003, which is pretty much that best you can say about his tenure in Queens.
Almonte was acquired from the Chicago White Sox along with Royce Ring for Roberto Alomar on July 1, 2003 and made his Mets debut, as well as his Major League debut, six days later against the Atlanta Braves. He pitched two innings in relief allowing a hit and a run as the Mets lost 7 to 3.
Almonte would pitch in a total of 12 games for the Mets in 2003. The good news is he didn’t lose a game, but the bad news is he didn’t win one either posting a 11.12 ERA over 11 1/3 innings.
The Boston Red Sox decided to take a chance on Almonte as he was claimed on waivers during the off-season ending his Mets career.
While with the Mets Almonte wore number 56.
