Wayne Kirby – His New York Mets Career 1998

wayne-kirbyThe Mets acquired outfielder Wayne Kirby from the St Louis Cardinals on June 10, 1998 in exchange for Shawn Gilbert.  He made his Mets debit the next day as a late inning defensive replacement for Butch Huskey and would go on to play in 26 games for New York before being shipped down to the minors in the middle of July.  At the time of his demotion he was hitting .194 (6 for 31).  Kirby finished out the season with the Norfolk Tides before being released on September 16.

His first hit as a Met occurred on June 14 against the Florida Marlins, a pinch hit single.

While with the Mets Kirby wore number 11.
