After the Mets purchased Barry Manuel’s contract from the Montreal Expos prior to the 1997 season, he was placed on their Opening Day roster as a right handed middle reliever. He made his Met debut on Opening Day and got knocked around, allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings. He would go on to appear in 18 more games for the Mets but with very little success. In the middle of June with his record at 0-1 and his ERA at 5.26 the Mets shipped him down to the minors where he finished out the season with the Norfolk Tides. Following the 1997 season he was granted free agency and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While with the Mets Manuel wore number 26.
Barry Manuel also played for the following teams:
Texas Rangers – 1991,1992
Montreal Expos – 1996
Arizona Diamondbacks – 1998
