Right-handed pitcher Herb Moford had pitched parts of three seasons with the Detroit Tigers, St Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox when the Mets purchased his contract from the Baltimore Orioles on December 2, 1961.
Moford made his Mets debut in the first game in franchise history, he pitched one inning of scoreless relief. He would appear in six more games for the Mets before being released at the end of April. In his seven appearances, all out of the bullpen, Moford pitched 15 innings and posted an 0-1 record with 7.20 ERA.
