Al Schmelz – His New York Mets Career 1967

al-schmelzAfter spending three seasons in the minors right-handed pitcher Al Schmelz was brought up to the Mets as a September call up in 1967.  He made his Major League debut on September 7th throwing two innings of relief in the Mets 9-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.  He made one more appearance on September 24th against the Houston Astros pitching one inning of relief.

1967 would be his only season in the majors, he returned to the minors for two more seasons before retiring.  His final stat line – 2 appearances, 3 innings pitched and 3.00 ERA.

While with the Mets Schmelz wore number 44.
