The Mets drafted Darren O’Day from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2008 rule 5 draft. The right-handed pitcher, who pitched submarine style, earned the final spot in the Mets bullpen during Spring Training. He made his Met debut on April 9, 2009 throwing 2/3 of an inning in relief in the Mets 8-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. O’Day appeared in three more games for the Mets and did not allow an earned run in three innings. But when the Mets were forced to clear a roster spot to make room for a starting pitcher O’Day was placed on waivers and was claimed by the Texas Rangers thus ending his brief Met career.
While with the Mets O’Day wore number 36.
Darren O’Day also played for the following teams:
Los Angeles Angels – 2008
Texas Rangers – 2009-2011
Baltimore Orioles – 2012-2016
