The Mets signed journeyman catcher Rod Barajas as a free agent prior to the 2010 season. He made his Met debut as the teams Opening Day catcher on April 5 against the Florida Marlins and promptly went 2 for 4 with an RBI. As the teams regular catcher Barajas had three multi-home run games during the first five weeks of the season. On May 7 against the San Francisco Giants his second home run of the game was a walk-off game winner. It was also the first walk-off home run in the brief history of Citi Field.
With his production starting to diminish the Mets placed Barajas on waivers on August 22 and he was promptly picked up by the Los Angeles Dodgers where he finished out the season.
During his one season with the Mets Barajas appeared in 74 games and hit .225 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI’s.
While with the Mets Barajas wore number 21.
