After being claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 3, 2002 McKay Christensen made his Mets debut the next day as a pinch runner for Mark Johnson. Christensen appeared in three more games for the Mets before being demoted to the minors where he finished out the season playing for the Norfolk Tides. In four games for the Mets Christensen went 1 for 3 with his only hit coming as a pinch hitter.
Following the season Christensen was granted free agency and signed with the Philadelphia Phillies but his tenure with the Mets would be his last in the majors.
While with the Mets Christensen wore number 23.
