Looking to bolster their bullpen for the stretch run the Mets acquired left-hander Dan Schatzeder from the Houston Astros on September 10, 1990. He made his Met debut four days later when he pitched 2/3 of an inning in the Mets 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He would go on to pitch in another five games, all out of the bullpen, and allowed zero earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Following the season, Schatzeder was granted free agency and signed with the Kansas City Royals.
While with the Mets Schatzeder wore number 43.
