Steve Springer – His New York Mets Career 1992

The Mets initially drafted Steve Springer in the 20th round of the 1982 amateur draft.   He spent 8 seasons in their minor league system before he was traded to the Chicago White Sox on August 8, 1988.  He bounced around the minors for several teams before returning to the Mets a free agent on December 19, 1991.  He started the 1992 season in the minors before finally getting the call to join the Mets in August.  He made his Met debut on August 15th as a pinch hitter for pitcher Anthony Young, he struck out.  He appeared in four games for the Mets before getting sent back to the minors.  His final appearance in a Mets uniform came on August 25 against the San Francisco Giants.  As the starting second baseman, he went 2 for 3 with a double. 

While with the Mets Springer wore number 13.

Steve Springer also played for the Cleveland Indians in 1990.
